You are waiting for the alert. The anticipation is killing you. Will you find equipment to defeat your enemies or will you just fail? There is no time to worry about that now. The alarm klaxon blares loudly, and you see red lights flashing. You drop, in your car, out of the back of the cargo plane and wait for your drone engines to light up. You fly smoothly to the ground as you start looking for your weapons and armor. This is our written and recorded first impressions of notmycar.
From Developer NMC Studios and Publisher, Skybound Games comes the next entry into the Battle Royale genre, notmycar. Some people may not like the fact that they are driving cars and trucks in this Battle Royale game, but most of the people who have watched me stream it have come to me with realistic hope and intrigue for this game. Most of have said that it is like Vigilante 8 from PlayStation 2; however, I have not played that title and liken it to Twisted Metal meets PUBG. It is an MMO that holds up to forty people per match, and the overall mission is to be the last one standing. I haven't seen anything for a catchphrase for the victories but have dubbed them Winner Winner Metal Dinner. Will it catch on? I don’t have any idea.
The first thing that everyone should know is the most important for most gamers. This game is FREEEEEEEEE. That's right 100% free. You don't need to spend money to win this game. You can play this game as a solo or with a group of up to three people. I have won four games out of thirty matches with thirty-eight kills in those four games as a solo. The only thing you can really do with money is getting the season pass which gives you the ability to get more cosmetics for your vehicles, or flags to fly off of the back of your cars. At the time of this impressions piece, the ability to buy coins for the season pass still has not allowed me to do so. One more thing about this topic as well. If you play this game any time before the 12th of April, you will get the free founder's skin for the only truck in the game. I have it, and the skin is pretty legit. You also receive a founder's flag too.
The graphics in this game are pretty good at standard settings. I have a pretty good PC but haven’t had to adjust the graphics settings at all. Other than a few small server-side things the game runs rather smooth. There have definitely been worse launches in recent days, and we know which games those are. The greatest thing is what will be coming from the company during Early Access and post-launch. Here are some of those great things directly from the FAQ.
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
We are planning on being in Early Access for a minimum of 6 months. This time between Early Access launch and 1.0 will allow us to create new game modes, enhance existing and build new features, fine-tune driving and combat, develop in-game items based on player feedback (i.e. weapons, equipment, and abilities), and to scale up the number of players that can enter a match from 40 to 75+.
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
The full version of the game is targeted to support the following:
- New game modes beyond Battle Royale
- New vehicles
- New weapons
- New abilities
- Prestige system
- Additional 10k map
- 75-100 players
It also needs to be pointed out that they want to use player feedback to help with the game as well as the fact that it will remain free-to-play after launch. This is excellent news for gamers.
The weapons, armor, and abilities already in the game are great. I can only imagine what they will come up with next. A few more vehicles would give extra to the player base and allow them to make their gameplay vehicles more their own. The weapons and armor in the game rank from white, which is the lowest level, up to gold, which is the highest quality that you can find in the game. The gold items are most specifically airdrop loot so you will need to go find those care packages for a chance to use gold armor or get one of the gold named weapons. The abilities are all standard abilities, and you can hold two of them and swap them out when you want to. Ranging from radar scanners to cloaks for your car and everything in between. Find your winning combo and get out onto the battlefield. One last mention is for the meds in this game. You have armor healing boosts, medpacks to slowly heal your health over time, or to heal small amounts, or to heal large amounts of health.
Overall, notmycar is one of the best Battle Royale games that I have played recently, and I am a big time PUBG player with more than 2000 hours in that game. I have played all sorts of Battle Royale games, and I will continue to play them to see what is fun and different about each game. This game is free-to-play, and I would love to see you guys out there in the battlefields with me.
