Chicago 'Fest' Attendees Suing Niantic After Weekend Fiasco

Last weekend, Pokemon Go fans gathered in Chicago for the inaugural "Fest" event and were met with a slew of issues making the game unplayable for nearly the entirety of the event. According to the suit's organizer, Chicago attorney Thomas Zimmerman, many fans would like to have travel costs reimbursed after coming to the event from out of state or even out of the country. So far, plaintiffs number "20 or 30" according to Zimmerman, a number that is likely to grow as news of the suit spreads.

Niantic refunded attendees' entry ticket prices and offered each person $100 in-game credit, but that has left many players feeling unsatisfied.

Niantic CEO John Hanke responded to the event issues:

Technical issues with our game software caused client crashes and interfered with gameplay for some users. A more protracted problem was caused by oversaturation of the mobile data networks of some network providers. This caused many attendees to be unable to access Pokémon Go or other Internet services. Network congestion also led to a login issue which affected some users able to access the Internet.

We'll keep you posted as the story develops.
