PUBG's Brendan Greene Wants 'Other Devs to Put Their Own Spin on the Genre' -

Speaking to the BBC Radio 1 Game Show, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene laments at the number of "copycat" titles that are flooding the games space these days. He calls for other developers to "put their own spin on the genre" and that "if they're just copycats, then the genre doesn't grow and people get bored".

To that end, Greene would like to see more IP protection in games. "In movies and music there is IP protection and you can really look after your work. In gaming that doesn't exist yet, and it's something the industry needs to look into."

Greene's comments are interesting in light of the genre's explosion. Games like ARMA 3 and H1Z1 came before PUBG, though it appears that Fortnite and several up and coming games are at the center of his current thinking.
