Professional eSports Leagues to Debut in Four Regions in 2019 -

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is getting a professional league that will debut in four regions in 2019. "Each league will include revenue share opportunities, with the first initiative available to teams in 2018" writes eSports Observer. PUBG professional esports competitions are already set for the next five years through 2023.

Here's what we know:

  • groundwork will be laid beginning this year, with first competitions being held in 2019
  • merchandising, prize pools and revenue sharing will be included as revenue streams for professional teams
  • fans will be able to purchase in-game cosmetic items that are themed around the competitors in this year's PGI 2018. Competitors will earn a share of the generated revenue
  • professional leagues will initially be found in Korea, China, Europe and North America, with others added over time
  • pro leagues will include a word championship
  • no information was revealed about how league ownership will be structured
