According to PUBG console producer Koosung Jeong, adding cross play will "make the matchmaking pool bigger." While PC won't be getting cross play, this move shows some willingness on Sony's part to open their platform to more cross play options after seemingly being against the concept wholly as recently as just last year.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds aims to add the new feature to the live servers in October, with a test period going live sometime in September. Meanwhile, a new patch should hit on August 27th with console updates going live two weeks after they hit on the PC.
