Kotaku is reporting that inside sources have told them that Microsoft is finalizing a buy out of Obsidian Entertainment. The source states that the deal is 90% complete and that it is "when, not if" it will be revealed. Neither Microsoft nor Obsidian Entertainment has commented on the tasty tidbit other than an Obsidian rep saying, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation other than to say that the Rumors album by Fleetwood Mac still holds up".
If the rumors are true, it would mean that one of the most well-respected RPG developers would come under the banner of Microsoft. With a ready source of cash, perhaps Obsidian will continue to put out games such as the critically-acclaimed Pillars of Eternity, Knights of the Old Republic and Fallout: New Vegas.
