Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire console release is just around the corner and while we raided Gamescom 2019, we had an opportunity to chat with the team ushering in the platform port.
It's been a year since the release of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire and Obsidian Entertainment is celebrating with the v5.0 update that includes a new ship UI, story updates and the Final God challenge. The patch further marks the official release of the turn-based combat option that can be chosen if desired. For those who love tabletop gaming, a revised set of the Pillars of Eternity ruleset is also available as a free download.
Obsidian Entertainment has revealed that a new way to play Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is coming on Thursday, January 24th with the next update. Once the patch is deployed, players starting a new PoE2 playthrough will be able to do so using a turn-based combat system. This allows players to choose between turn-based or real-time with pause modes, though the TBS mode will be considered "beta".
Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire will bring its development cycle to a close with the release of the final paid DLC on December 13th. The Forgotten Sanctum will bring a new questline for adventurers as they look to track down an Archmage down within "an immense dungeon". The DLC is part of the Season Pass or can be purchased separately for $9.99.
Kotaku is reporting that inside sources have told them that Microsoft is finalizing a buy out of Obsidian Entertainment. The source states that the deal is 90% complete and that it is "when, not if" it will be revealed. Neither Microsoft nor Obsidian Entertainment has commented on the tasty tidbit other than an Obsidian rep saying, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation other than to say that the Rumors album by Fleetwood Mac still holds up".
Obsidian Entertainment has announced that the second of three planned DLC packages for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire will be launching on September 25th. Called "Seeker, Slayer, Survivor", the DLC is set to challenge even the hardiest of adventurers with visceral combat of three distinct types.
Obsidian Entertainment and Versus Evil have announced that the first major DLC for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire has been released. Called "Beast of Winter", the DLC is part of the Season Pass or for $9.99 for those who do not own the Season Pass. In addition, Obsidian announced that three more DLC will be coming before the end of 2018. Those who opt out of the DLC will still receive the beefy 2.0 update with bug fixes and balance improvements as well as the Deck of Many Things".
Obsidian Entertainment has sent word that Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire players can log into the game to claim their free DLC called Scalawags. Content includes three new recruitable crew members, the Savage personality setting and five new ship upgrades. The latter includes a sail, cannon, anchor and more that can be found at shipwrights throughout the Archipelago.
