Since launching on Steam, adding 33 more countries to the initial North American PC and Xbox One launch, SEGA has announced that the venerable Japanese MMO Phantasy Star Online 2 has surpassed one million players.
Phantasy Star Online 2 has been availabe in the West since earlier this year due to it hitting Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One, but the launch of Steam seems to have helped catapult players into the MMO, thanks in large part to it opening up the long-awaited MMO in 33 different countries. As a result of the achivement, SEGA has announced its hosting the "One Million ARKS Celebration" in PSO2.
The celebration begins today in game and will last until August 26th, giving players EXP, Rare Drop and Rare Enemy spawn rate increases by 100%. There will also be log in rewards, with players who log in for more than 5 days during the event being added to a drawing to win 10,000 AC, 1,000 SG or 10 AC scratch tickets, with 100 randomly selected winners for each of the prizes.
You can read more about the event on the official Phantasy Star Online 2 website. For those who missed it, Phantasy Star Online 2 looks to be recieving a pretty substantial overhaul next year in the form of New Genesis, which brings open world gameplay and a graphics engine overhaul to the MMO.
