Phantasy Star Online 2

Phantasy Star Online 2 is an upcoming free-to-play MMORPG from Sega and Sonic Team, and is the next addition in the classic Phantasy Star series. Players will begin the game as a new member to the Arks, starting out on the planet Naberius. The game will have an item mall, with items available for “Arks Cash” in-game currency. Players will be able to acquire pet mags, mechanical life forms that support characters in battle. Players will also have access to My Room, a character house that may be furnished by players, and players will be able to visit their friends’ Rooms. The game is currently in closed beta, so stay tuned here as more info gets released.

Phantasy Star Online (JP) will be updated with Episode 5 on July 26th. The patch will bring the Hero advanced class to the game that features several requirements in order to be able to use it. Hero will have access to a sword, gun and 'talis' during any given fight and will be able to switch at will. In addition, the Hero will have access to special skills that can be seen in the video below. The video sports over 22 minutes of Hero game play so be sure to check it out!

The English language SEA version of Phantasy Star Online 2 is closing shop on May 26th. This has no effect on the Japanese version that is, by all reports, still going well. Publisher Playpark posted the notice yesterday to its customers and all refill services are now closed.

During a Phantasy Star Online 2 event in Tokyo this past weekend, it was announced that Final Fantasy XIV and Phantasy Star Online 2 will be exchanging a few assets for cross-promotion. FFXIV's Odin will enter PSO2 this summer as well as Miqo'te outfits. At this point, it remains unrevealed what PSO2 items will appear in FFXIV but it's a likely bet they will. According to Kotaku, this should be revealed soon.

Sega has announced that Phantasy Star Online 2 is heading to PlayStation 4 in Japan sometime in 2016, though no further mention was made for other regional releases. The game has been on PC and Vita since 2012 and 2013 respectively. Luckily for NA and EU players, the SEA version that launched last year features English language support.
