The Paragon team has sent out an explanatory video to show off the basic way that the card system is used in the game. Roughly speaking, the card system is equivalent to skill power-ups in other MOBAs. Of particular note, however, is the fact that you gain card experience as you play that unlocks more card options in passive and attack skills.
