Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen Articles

Catching Up on the Past Year

On Tuesday night I caught up with two of the team members from Visionary Realms. Creative Director for Pantheon Rise of the Fallen Chris Perkins and Director of Communications Benjamin de la Durantaye. Read on to see what the two of them had to say about what Visionary Realms has been up to for the past 12 months.

Internal Alpha 1 Nears & Other News in the May Update

The Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen site has been updated with a new letter from Creative Director Chris "Joppa" Perkins. In it, Perkins discusses a trio of big news updates: Internal alpha #1, a new team artist and the arrival of Unity 5 as the game engine.

Releases Part 2 of the Developer's Round Table

Group-oriented MMO Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has been keeping the community up to date on its process via Soundcloud, and this week the Visionary Realms team released part 2 of their Developer's Round Table.

State of the Game Update

This weekend, Visionary Realms Inc. posted an extensive update on its Facebook page regarding where the upcoming MMO is headed. At this point, the main developments are about the new version of the Unity engine and related graphic upgrades.

Two Hour Round Table Reveals Tennets

The Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team took to the airwaves over the weekend to take on questions submitted by the community. Brad McQuaid and his team spent two hours to give fans a peek at the foundational principles for the game as well as subjects as diverse as water combat, solo-able content, open world and much more. Give it a listen to learn more.

October Update Video

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is a High Fantasy themed Massively Multiplayer Role Playing game (MMORPG) with a heavy focus on character development, an immersive world, and player interdependence (grouping). It is being developed by Visionary Realms, Inc., a lean and mean volunteer team. We are targeting a ‘niche’ audience who wants more of a challenge, with a mixture of classic MMO mechanics and modern ideas. This October 2014 video shows our latest development progress, including:

Taking a Big Step Forward By Week's End (Hopefully!)

Brad McQuaid and the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team have posted that we will be seeing a significant step forward in the game's development by the week's end. To tease fans about what they might expect, the team released a trio of new screenshots to show off newly polished locations within the game.

Progress Video Shows Recent Changes

The Pantheon Rise of the Fallen YouTube page has been updated with a new video to show some of the progress the team has made developing the game recently. The plan is to put up a new video every couple of weeks to show fans how development is going.

It’s Just Fallen

For those of you that are now wondering, “What’s with the Dr. Doofenshmirtzesque back story,” it serves to set up this. Having met Brad I got the impression that he was a decent designer and an okay guy in a general setting. Because of that it was with mixed feelings when I saw Pantheon pop up on Kickstarter I knew it was dead on arrival.

Volunteers & Remote Development Key to Continuing Progress

Brad McQuaid has posted a lengthy letter on the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen site. In it, he lays out the ways that development of the game can and will continue albeit at a slower pace. Key to the plan is the inclusion of a volunteer development staff and the necessity of remotely working together to move Pantheon forward as the team continues to look for funding sources.

Demo Prototype Video Shows Off Game Features

The latest update from the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team reveals the first-ever demo prototype video. Brad McQuaid adds a bit of a caveat by acknowledging that it is a very early build and that texture errors are to be expected. Even with that, it's a pretty neat look at a game that many hope to see fully funded in the near future.

The Post-Kickstarter Campaign

I’ve made it no secret that to me, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes represents some of the best raw potential that MMOs have to offer, even if the game’s initial execution left a lot to be desired. That’s why I’ve been excited by Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, the new MMORPG in development from Visionary Realms (VR), whose pedigree features the minds that brought us EverQuest 1 & 2, Vanguard, PlanetSide 1 & 2, Star Wars: Galaxies, and a whole lot more.

Development Slows As Initial Funding Dries Up

Brad McQuaid has posted a short note on his Facebook page that reveals the news that development on Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has slowed. According to McQuaid, initial funding by the team to develop Pantheon has dried up and until further funding is secured, the slow down in production is required.

Taurokian Race Revealed

The Taurokian race, as the name implies, are a humanoid race with a bull-like head. The Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team has revealed more about the race through its lore in the latest site update.

Did Pantheon Suffer Kickstarter Burnout?

Recently the Kickstarter campaign for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen failed to reach their $800,000 goal. Being run by Brad McQuaid, one of the original creators of Everquest many in the community assumed it would easily reach the funding goal. As the 40 day campaign began to wear on, whispers in forums spoke not of what a terrible idea Pantheon was, but that something much more serious was behind the slow growth in funding: Kickstarter fatigue.
