A recent survey conducted in Britain has suggested that violent video games are not linked to violence, and the majority of gamers know the difference between reality and fantasy. Of course this shouldn't be surprising to most gamers as the majority of us already knew that. The article was originally posted at CNN.com.

Archived Review: Final Fantasy XI

Back in October of 2006, our own Derek Czerkaski took a look at the MMORPG incarnation of one of the most popular RPG franchises in history, Final Fantasy XI. According to Czerkaski, deficiencies in the categories of Role Playing (3) and Customer Service (3) conspired to hold the game to a rating of 6.9. Our readers disagree, rating the game at an average of 8.2.

Here's what Czerkaski had to say:

  • Role-playing is present in FFXI and the world of Vana'diel, even though it's very, very rare. There are presently not any designated role-playing servers, and it's a rarity to observe much present in-game.
  • Customer service in FFXI is rather laughable. GM's are seemingly powerless to do anything. If you trade an item and it disappears, that item is gone forever, and it won't be getting replaced.
  • FFXI is not a game for the casual player. Advancement requires a great amount of dedication to your character, your guild and your in-game finances.
  • While the game is not perfect, it's both a memorable and an enjoyable gaming experience...

Game of the week

With the plethora of new IP based games set to hit the market this year, it seems as though there is something for everyone. There's one game though, that seems to stand out among the rest. I am speaking, of course, of the Conan franchise and the new MMORPG being developed by Funcom, Age of Conan.

As it moves ever closer to launch, Age of Conan promises to be, "A mix of a deep, story-driven single-player experience and a massive and brutal multiplayer end-game brings forth the ultimate representation of the Age of Conan."

From the Editor

Dear Readers,

It's been a very busy time here at MMORPG.com, and quite a lot has been happening. We've traveled recently to GDC, Turbine, the Indie MMO Developers Conference and more. Sadly though, this past week was the last week for News Editor Garrett Fuller here at MMORPG.com as he moves on to pursue other opportunities. Garrett has been working with us here for nearly 2 years, first as a volunteer writer and later as our News Editor and Podcast Co-Host.

On behalf of the people here at MMORPG.com, I would like to thank Garrett for his hard work and wish him will in his future endeavors.
