The Saga of Ryzom

With the recent release of The Saga of Ryzom's expansion, Ryzom Ring, we thought it might be a good idea to point readers to the recent re-review that was conducted back in June of this year.

As many of you know, a lot can change in an MMORPG in the course of a year, and that's exactly what writer Donna Desborough does in this review. Below, you will find a number of memorable quotations from the article.

  • The lore and story of Ryzom has always been rich, but in the last year we've seen it develop further still.

  • The community of Ryzom has got to be the best I've ever seen. Whether in game or on the forums, the players are always willing to give a helping hand to new and old players alike.
  • Details are not forgotten in the graphics for Ryzom. Instead of a simple plain ground cover you have plants sprouting up from the ground.
  • The game is missing ambient music, but this is a plus in my eyes, and ears. If there was ambient music throughout the game you'd miss all the sounds of the world.
  • One of the few drawbacks of Ryzom is that it is very heavy on your memory and video. The game requirements suggest a minimum of a 64mb video card, and technically that is enough. I'd suggest more though.

The game earned an overall reviewer rating of 7.8, while our users rank the game at an impressive 8.2.

Game of the Week

Game of the week
This week's Game of the Week is Final Fantasy XI. Only one in a large and popular franchise, this game allows fans of the series to play in an MMORPG world. Here is what the developers have to say about the game:

"FINAL FANTASY XI is the first online game in the award-winning FINAL FANTASY series. How you play is up to you, with limitless possibilities for adventure. Set out on your own to discover the countless secrets of Vana'diel, or form a party with your friends to purge the beastman forces and bring home sensational spoils!"

Our readers have given this game a very respectable 8.0 using our rating system. Check it out.

Greetings All!

I want to start off this week's letter by wishing all of our Canadian readers a Happy Thanksgiving. To my mind, this has always been the opening of the Holiday Season of long weekends, family, friends and way too much food.

Along with the holidays, always seems to come holiday-themed MMORPG events, a chance for players and devs alike to experience something different, whether it be Easter hunts, Christmas gifts, or my favorite... Halloween costumes.

It's funny to think about in-game avatars, who already serve as a kind of costume for players, gearing up for a costume ball, but it can really be a lot of fun. If your favorite MMO hosts such an event, I would suggest you take part, they're often a great chance to meet people you might otherwise pass by.
