Featured Article: AoC - Content, DX 10 and Expansion

Here in Leipzig, has captured some great video interviews and presentations that will be hitting the site over the next week. That's not going to stop us, however, from bringing you the important information right up front, at least until you can hear it from the horse's mouth.

In a preview of DX10, we saw what that technology can add to the game. Not only does the lighting in the game improve dramatically (if you'll pardon the pun, the difference is like night and day), but new water reflection and water light diffusion make the underwater game a lot nicer (expect to see more underwater action in future updates).

On-Site: Convention Coverage

Over the past few weeks staff have been bouncing around the globe to cover an ever growing number of video game and game related conventions.

At Gen Con we spoke to Jack Emmert about Star Trek Online, sat down and talked about community in WAR with Robert Mull, and learned about the new new player experience in Dungeons and Dragons Online from Kate Paiz.

Jon Wood reported on DX 10, new content, and the recently announced expansion for Age of Conan, and got the scoop on Lord of the Rings Online: the Mines of Moria.

And Carolyn Koh was at SOE Fan Fair in Las Vegas to bring us details of The Seeds of Destruction expansion for EverQuest, and The Shadow Odyssey expansion for EQ2.

The convention season has only begun so look out for more videos and articles from Leipzig GC and Gen Con, as well as upcoming coverage of PAX and AGDC.

This week's game of the week is Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

As their recently announced launch date of September 18th draws near, Warhammer continues to dominate the news on a daily basis. In the last week alone, Mythic announced that they would start the open beta on September 7th, just as they completed the closed beta over the weekend with a climactic test of Real vs. Realm combat.

While this was going on they were busy releasing a new cinematic trailer that has garnered high praise from both the press and the game's fans, and attending the Leipzig GC where they were awarded the title of Best Online Game of the show.

Did You Know?
Did you know that's Jon Wood and Keith Cross recently returned from the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany? You probably did know that, because it's been mentioned several times already in this newsletter. But you might also be wondering who else goes to this event. Last year roughly 185,000 visitors came to the show, over half of which were under the age of 20. Roughly 80% of the visitors were male, and almost 40% of the attendees traveled more than 300km (190mi) to get there. Close to three and a half thousand members of the media went to the show and came from 46 countries including the UK, United States, Canada, South Africa, Iran, Pakistan, and almost every European nation except Andorra.
