Stargate Worlds - Combat Hands On Report

The folks at Firesky have been pretty quiet up until now about their upcoming MMORPG Stargate Worlds. At Comcic Con San Diego though, Managing Editor Jon Wood had the opportunity to try the combat system out for himself and he files this report.

So, what did we learn from our time with the game? I will start with my impressions of combat and then move into talking about some of the other things that I noticed during my play session:

We have heard almost from day one that the team at then Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment was aiming for an ambitious combat system that would see NPCs and players alike using cover and tactics to a level that we haven't seen before in an MMORPG. In my opinion, if this pre-alpha play test was any indication, they have succeeded.

Correspondent Spotlight Lord of the Rings Online Correspondent Matt McLean filed his first article this week, which takes a look at the state LotRO as the Fellowship moves into the Mines of Moria.

Ever since its release nearly 16 months ago, The Lord of the Rings Online (LotRO) has been one of the best MMORPGs on the market. It combines fluid gameplay with realistic graphics in one of the most recognizable fantasy atmospheres of all time. Their first "volume", The Shadows of Angmar, allowed players to explore Eriador in all of its grandeur and frightening splendor. And now, coming this fall, Volume II of the story unfolds as the retail expansion, The Mines of Moria, will be released.

Star Trek fans were interested recently when Cryptic Studios, the company behind Champions Online and City of Heroes, announced that they were the "Bay Area developer" that took over the popular license after Perpetual Entertainment (the game's original developer) folded.

Fans of the series are watching with great interest as more details on the game's design become available.'s Keith Cross and Richard Cox will be travelling to this year's GenCon where we have been promised more information.
