April Fool's Fun

It's the week of April 7th and that means that April 1st is now behind us. This year's April Fool's Day, which is always celebrated by studios across the industry, produced a number of great and chuckle-worthy article including jokes from World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Tabula Rasa, City of Heroes and more!

Not wanting to be left out of the fun, created its own Aril Fool's joke. The victim? NetDevil's Jumpgate Evolution:

The American Standards Senate has requested that NetDevil's Jumpgate Evolution change its name to Jumpgate Creationism, or at least offer an expansion of the same name alongside of the original product. The request comes after the conservative organization became concerned that impressionable children might confuse the title with Darwin's theories on the evolution of man.

"Of course we don't think that this game is literally promoting Darwin's theories," said A.S.Senate representative Lori Stephens in response to's questions. "However, the American Standards Senate feels strongly that the word evolution is misleading and should be removed from all forms of entertainment.

While NetDevil could not be reached for comment, sources close to the company say that they are considering moving to "Jumpgate Intelligent Design" as a compromise.

On-Site: Stargate Worlds Podcast

Last month while at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco we were involved in a comedy of errors, as fate was determined to prevent us from interviewing the folks behind Stargate Worlds. We're happy to say that the curse of Stargate has now been broken, and as promised we have a new interview for your listening pleasure. This time Jon Wood sits down with CME Studio Head Dan Elggren, Creative Director Chris Klug, Technology Director Demetrius Comes, and Art Director Howard Lyon where they discuss some of the worlds of Stargate Worlds, how the game integrates with the television series, take a first look at the game's factions, and more.

This week's Game of the Week is Funcom's Age of Conan. How could we not after the rather large response we got to recent screenshots that showed an impressive-looking snake. It really says something about a game that produces that much fuss with just a handful of new screenshots.

The game itself will launch on May the 20th of this year and has been one of the most anticipated upcoming MMOs since it was announced. In 2007, the game was voted "Most Anticipated Game" by the community.
