City of Steam: Review
We've been playing Mechanist Games' City of Steam for the past few weeks and have been sharing some thoughts in our Review in Progress articles. Both articles were preparation for today's official review. See what we think of City of Steam and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.

City of Steam grabs players aesthetically right from the start with one of the most beautiful original soundtracks in the MMO space today. Daniel Sadowski's work is simply magnificent and evokes a sense of steampunk. If you've heard any of his work, you understand what is meant by that statement. It's got a haunting and spectral quality that also prods players to action with a sense of urgency underlying the peaceful overtones.

Player vs. Player: Selling Gear for Cash
Player vs Player is a new column at to offer opposing viewpoints on hot topics in the MMO space. In today's column, we take a look at the idea of item mall gear being sold for real-world cash.

It all keeps coming back to design. If you make your game's content more accessible and less exclusive, then you won't ever really have the need to sell gear to let people play everything. As a new father myself with plenty of responsibility outside of Telara and other virtual worlds, I appreciate what Trion's trying to do. But tell me if you feel as good buying an item as you do earning the loot. If the developers can make the experience of obtaining gear less cumbersome and arduous, without cheapening the quest for epic loot, everyone wins. There's no easy solution to the problem of accessibility of content... but selling gear isn't the fix in my book.
