PlanetSide 2: The Gold Standard MMOFPS
SOE's taken a second crack at the MMOFPS with PlanetSide 2. Does the sequel succeed where its predecessor fell short? We offer our take in our official review!

PlanetSide 2 is SOE's second crack at properly tackling a large scale MMOFPS since the release of the original PlanetSide back in 2003. Like its predecessor, PlanetSide 2 pits players in a three-way conflict over the resources and territory of the planet Auraxis. The three factions of the Terran Republic, New Conglomerate, and Vanu Sovereignty make their return and players can choose to align themselves with any of the three in their efforts for global dominance. If you're a fan of the original PlanetSide or a long time veteran of the Battlefield series, you're sure to be excited by what's in store for you in SOE's sophomore MMOFPS effort.

Marvel Heroes: Clickng with the Beta
The Marvel Heroes closed beta has been going on for some time now but the lid has been kept tightly sealed. Today, however, we blow the lid off and bring you our impressions of Marvel Heroes. See what we've got to say and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.

I've had the pleasure of toying around with Marvel Heroes' closed beta during the past week or so, and what I've found is a game that's both addictive and a little rough around the edges. It's fun and aggravating, but mostly? Mostly, I just want to keep killing things with Deadpool because that's what Marvel Heroes is all about. As Dave Brevik's follow-up to Diablo 2, Marvel Heroes feels a lot like what Diablo 3 could have been if Blizzard had gone the route of the more MMO-like Action RPG. It's beta, and small balance and tuning issues are to be expected. But the idea of building an army of Marvel's best and brightest is definitely an idea I'm fond of. I know folks wanted their own heroes in the Marvel Universe, but as an Action MMO, this setup works and I have to say it could keep me playing for a good while if Gazillion can manage to capture the essence of the characters.

Game of the Week
City of Heroes is a premier free-to-play MMORPG from the vaulted game companies NCSoft, Paragon Studios, and Cryptic Studios, and holds the distinction of being the first super-hero MMORPG. Players enter Paragon City or the Rogue Isles and create a hero or villain from 10 archetypes, add Powers from a list of over 40 primary and sub classes, then set about questing to rise to the top of the hero or villain hierarchy.

Meet and fight alongside many signature heroes and villains, including Statesman, Lord Recluse, Sister Psyche, Scirocco, and others. Ally yourself with other heroes and villains and build your own super Base of operations. Players may also use the Mission Architect to create and share adventures.

Unfortunately, the venerable superhero MMOG shut its doors recently.
