Zenith: The Last City will be getting a major skill tree overhaul. The team is previewing the upcoming changes, which add more player choices and a more visual journey.
One of the things the team has frequently worked on and adjusted since Zenith has been live are the godstones. This upcoming revamp will adjust the full system in ways that open up character progression and also updates the godstone system within the new framework. The team is looking to make sure that character progression involves a lot of player choice, is clear along the full journey, and immersive. After all, a VR MMORPG has immersion near the top of the list for desired outcomes.
In an effort to make this clearer, instead of just unlocking abilities in a list and checking them off, the branching skill tree will be a visual experience. You'll earn XP and level up and will be able to see connections start to form between each of the godstone slots. This will show you how far you are from the next goal and represent your progression in a more visible way. You'll be able to manually choose your godstones, and the new system will let you explore the node abilities that come with them, including tooltips, before you make a final decision of which to slot. When two godstons are in contention for one slot, this will lead you to a branching path and you can decide which one you want to take.
Speaking of branches, the team released a video showing off what this new skill tree will look like and each ability will have its own set of branches that will offer you a number of different choices along your personal journey. You can invest in certain nodes more than others and create your own build (with respec available).
The update will also add Augment slots for each ability. there are three slots–Uncommon, Rare, and Epic–and You'll be looking out for these nodes to slot in instead of only trying to get as many godstone drops
Since this change is a huge one, the team is taking its time to collect feedback and will eventually be testing everything in alpha and beta. We can expect more details and previews over the coming weeks.
