The next phase of Zenith is on the way with the free to play, session-based co-op VR mode, Zenith: Infinite Realms. Ramen VR has announced that open beta is now live.
There are a few areas to check out in the beta build, including the City Plaza, which functions as the central hub for this new mode. This will be where you can learn about the mechanics, find challenges, vendors, gear upgrades, the shop, and more.
Featured in the beta are various floating worlds with different content on each. These are located beyond the three gates–Iron, Silver, and Pandowl. One way Ramen VR is shaking things up here is in the decision to rotate the content that is beyond the Pandowl Gate daily at around 2 AM PT. This is something the team can do after lessons they learned and the decision to incorporate more procedurally generated content, which increases the number of potential options they can create.
Once you’re in a session, movement is designed to be varied, with jumping, rail grinding, climbing, and sliding among the options in a parkour-like system. When you join up to play with others, XP will be shared among the entire group, but mob difficulty will scale to you so even if you are playing with people who are varying levels, the challenge should work for all.
Also there to test out will be the overhauled player abilities system, which should start off somewhat familiar if you’re a Zenith vet. The new system is designed to incorporate new ways to modify skills and use the skill tree to customize your build.
If you’re interested there are several options to get access to the beta. On Steam VR, you can test the beta for free only if you already own a copy of Zenith: The Last City. Meta Quest and Rift owners can playtest the mode for free without needing a copy of The Last City. The team advises that this is still an early build, so they’re looking for feedback, and there might be things that are missing, not balanced, or don’t look right just yet.
