The next Xbox showcase has been dated, and with Activision Blizzard now officially under Microsoft, the company’s lineup will be part of the presentation for the first time.
Announced via the Xbox Wire, the showcase will feature games from other studios under Microsoft, like Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios, along with presentations and announcements from third-party developers.
Set for Sunday, June 9th, at 10am PT/ 1pm ET, the showcase will be followed by a “[REDACTED] Direct”, featuring “a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise”. Speculation and sources now peg this as a new Call of Duty announcement, which makes sense given that huge Activision Blizzard acquisition and all. Last year, there was a Starfield Direct following the Xbox showcase, with Bethesda’s first new IP in decades, so this prime position would be fitting for one of the world’s biggest franchises now that the company owns it. Other poibilities for announcement include a Starfield expansion, and a rumored new Gears of War.
Both showcases will stream live on Xbox’s social channels, including Twitch and YouTube in 30 supported languages, including an ASL broadcast. There will also likely be more announcements and teases leading up to the event. If you’re able to be in or around Los Angeles for the occasion, Microsoft will also be giving away tickets for a viewing event party.
With the demise of E3, and the rise of other events from studios and publishers, alongside Summer Game Fest, it is soon to be summer announcement season. Summer Game Fest itself happens on June 7th, so the Xbox showcase and the probably Call of Duty reveal are right in the thick of things.
