World of Warcraft's Game Director Ion Hazzikostas talked about the release timing for its upcoming Burning Crusade Classic and Shadowlands' Chains of Domination in a recent interview, giving a glimpse into the release timing for the two major WoW releases this year.
In an interview (via WoWHead) with Douyo streamer LingHunFuSu, Hazzikostas talks about the release timing for the two updates. Both The Burning Crusade and Shadowlands' 9.1 patch have hit their respective PTRs lately, so it's natural to speculate that the two game updates could hit at the same time. Hazzikostas, though, clarified that it might not be the case.
"Well obviously we will have more information to announce about specific release dates for Burning Crusade Classic and for Chains of Domination. I can tell you that it's very unlikely that we're going to release both of those right at the same time, we know there are many players who would like to experience both."
Hazzikostas continued by saying that while they want to "avoid too much collision between the two" games, he also understands that there is a lot of cross over that they need to keep in mind.
"So, while we want to avoid too much collision between the two, we also understand that there are many players who only play Classic, and there are many players who only play Shadowlands, and we don't want to punish one group in order to avoid a conflict for the other, while still trying to make sure that each game has some time and space to breathe on its own."
Currently, both The Burning Crusade Classic and Chains of Domination are on their respective test servers, getting feedback for the development team, though we don't know exactly when the two will release fully. However, based on Hazzikostas' remarks here, it might not be for a while, and it won't be at the same time.
The Burning Crusade Classic is the first expansion of WoW's Classic server, bringing the next chapter in the Warcraft story to the game. For those players who don't want to jump right into TBCC when it eventually releases, there will be a way to stay on Classic's pre-Crusade servers. Shadowlands, on the other hand, is gearing up for the 9.1 release of Chains of Domination, which sees the story started last year in the latest expansion continued. Hazzikostas recently talked about 9.1 legendaries as well in the same interview, which you can read about here.
