World of Warcraft Classic is getting Hardcore, and it’s on the PTR today.
For those who are always looking for a challenge, that is the Hardcore realm. Now available on the PTR as of today, you'll get a chance to start and get a taste of what it's like in Azeroth when death is permanent. Essentially, it is for the very confident or the very foolish. you'll have to make it through as far as you can and participate in activities, try and level up, take on raids, dungeons, and other challenges–even including duels if you're brave enough to accept. You'll have to very deliberately flag yourself for PvP, so don't worry about unintended flagging.
If you die a single time, you will never be able to return to your body but you can release and hang out on the server as a ghost. so you can do things like close out any business you have on the realm, maybe transfer a guild leadership. This is about the journey, not endgame. So all content phases will be available, so go wild. But not too too wild.
There are some changes to be aware of for hardcore mode, such as Battlegrounds not being enabled and a number of safeguards and class change modifications that will help keep things fair. Among the changes are some technical work to minimize the effects of things like disconnects. We've all heard those stories, and the last thing you want if you are doing well on Hardcore is to lose your one and only character to a glitch.
The WoW Classic team is also going through class abilities and skills in order to modify as needed to prevent resurrection. They’re also modifying quests that require flagging for PvP or dying to progress a questline. Enemies will be tethered in their spawn areas So people know where and when to expect them but also so they can't be kited into lower level areas.
We chatted with the team about Hardcore recently, delving into what players can expect from this highly requested new feature.
