World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic closed beta has gone live.

The next, most controversial–or perhaps most consequential–expansion in WoW Classic is on the way later this year. Blizzard isn’t resting, since the team is continuing to examine their content as they prepare for another expansion to hit Classic. The team is promising a number of quality of life changes, including faster content cadence, and an improved leveling experience. We can also expect expanded Collections UI, and additional changes to come.

“From the fires of destruction, a new Azeroth arises. Following Deathwing the Destroyer's cataclysmic entrance, which left a festering wound across Azeroth, heroes are called once again to experience a dramatically reforged Azeroth and defend it from utter devastation.”

While the content will be mostly what we remember, based on prior expansion releases, we should be able to expect those tweaks, as well as additional quest content, and adjustments to dungeons and raids as well. There will be the addition of worgens and goblins, improved guild features, and transmog.

Blizzard opened applications for the closed beta near the end of 2023, and they are still taking signups for subsequent waves. According to the WoW roadmap released at BlizzCon back in November, Cataclysm Classic is getting its pre-patch event sometime this spring, and we can expect a release this summer. When Wrath of the Lich King Classic went into closed beta, that was June of 2022, with the expansion landing in late September. Could we be seeing this one in June?
