World of Tanks Modern Armor, Wargaming’s console version of its tank warfare game, is celebrating this milestone with events, and more throughout the year.
That’s right, the 10th anniversary will last all year, with special monthly 10-year celebration rewards that will be tied into themed events in updates to come. The celebration began yesterday with the arrival of new Celebration War Chests and the Anniversary: Big X Community Op. That operation could net you two free tanks, a new Lago M38 and the classic T-34-88. Next week, on February 13th, more rewards become available, and these include Garage Gear and a free or heavily discounted Tier X MBT-B tank just for veteran players.
The festivities will continue, with new rewards and celebration events to come over six seasons. There’s a Celebrations companion site that shows the currently available options and will let you track your seasonal progress simply. The new monthly challenges will also be trackable here, and there will be 12 Emblems to collect in total, exclusive to these challenges. The first is collectible until March 4th and is the 10th anniversary Big X emblem.
In a release on the super-sized celebration and the big anniversary, Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi said, “Ten years ago, World of Tanks made its debut on Xbox, delivering one of the first free-to-play games for consoles.I extend my heartfelt gratitude to players worldwide who have enjoyed our game and contributed to its development,” noting the work of the Chicago studio, and that Wargaming is gearing up for even more big updates.
Later this year, expect more new tanks to earn and to upgrade, including an annual challenge that will reward to not yet revealed tanks. The team only offers that one will be from World War II and one will date from the Cold War. Also coming this month is a new tech tree line that features German light tanks and tank destroyers for Cold War mode. A new World War II Tech Tree Line will debut in the spring.
