Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and World of Tanks is commemorating this historical event with new content, including a new PvE mode that takes players into the Normandy landings. The newest update also includes a new D-Day Battle Pass season featuring three chapters and a number of rewards.
Wargaming is known for their attention to historical details in World of Tanks and beyond, and to mark the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944, their update sounds like an appropriately unique offering. There's a special D-Day events map that takes us into the events of this historic anniversary via a sequence of themed missions. Learn about the events of this day and earn yourself some tokens to exchange for customizations, premium vehicles, and more.
The new PvE mode, inspired by Operation Overlord, lets you command the M4A3E8 Sherman tank and head out with the goal of breaching the enemy defenses to allow storming the beach. To do that, you’ll have to destroy the coastal bunkers that hide and protect anti-aircraft batteries so that Allied planes can come into a safer zone.
By doing this, you weaken enemy defenses and you'll get access to AI support from Allied forces via planes and battleship artillery. This isn't the only challenge, however, since the map is filled with mines, creating a new hazard for your tank. Luckily, you’ll have the support of the WWII-era Sherman Crab, a tank that detects–and detonates–landmines, helping to provide safer passage.
The D-Day Battle Pass season will run through September and there will be three chapters that let you unlock three Tier IV premium tanks, each with Normandy-inspired 3D styles and unique crew members. Rewards for completing this extended season include bonds, credits, equipment, and premium account time.
Finally, Wargaming will hold a special Twitch stream on June 8th at 18:00 CEST/ 12pm EDT hosted from the LCT 7074, a tank that is the only known surviving model in the UK that was part of D-Day 80 years ago.
