Wizards of the Coast has now publicly denied reports that it is considering selling its Dungeons & Dragons IP.
As we reported yesterday, reports started to circulate from Speed Daily (via a translation from Pan Daily), reported that Habsro was attempting to sell the Dungeons & Dragons IP. Interestingly, the report says Hasbro initially approached Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios to purchase the IP, the studio lacked the funds and they contacted Tencent about the potential sale.
But, after this rumored sale made headlines, Wizards of the Coast, which creates Dungeons & Dragons and is owned by Hasbro, denied that it was looking to divest, stating in a statement to VGC:
“We regularly talk to Tencent and enjoy multiple partnerships with them across a number of our IPs. We don’t make a habit of commenting on internet rumors, but to be clear: we are not looking to sell our D&D IP. We will keep talking to partners about how we bring the best digital experiences to our fans. We won’t comment any further on speculation or rumors about potential M&A or licensing deals.”
It seems like only time will tell whether or not Hasbro really is attempting to sell off the IP or if Wizards of the Coast is correct in shooting down these rumors.
