Wizard101 is taking everyone into the Portal of Peril with its latest update and new event. The new update adds the mysterious new attraction to the fairgrounds, along with an updated Forbidden Library gauntlet, a quest friend finder, and more quality of life changes, including clearer spells.
The Portal of Peril has arrived, with a new event for those level 30 and above to tackle for one week each month. One Madame Magda is a fortuneteller who unveils the mystery for you, and if you head inside, there are three tiers in this gauntlet. Those tiers are levels 50, 100, and 150. For 50 and 100, these should be like the gauntlets you’re used to, but for level 150, the monsters vary (and the update even adds new Monstrology entries for them). If you’re grouping, you can play with others of different levels, as you’ll scale up to the tier of the highest level player in the group.
The Forbidden Library is also here to challenge in new ways. A bibliomancer is plotting to steal secrets from the library, and it’s up to you to solve puzzles and battle the defenders inside to stop him. This gauntlet has a few more challenges in addition to the combat you’d expect, as there are more puzzles, including four distinct puzzle rooms with options for a combat state or a puzzle state, all randomly selected when you enter. This means the experience will be different each time.
When it comes to being a wizard, learning your spells is an important part of the experience. Since Wizard101 has been running since 2008 (and just got added to Steam in Europe), combat has grown in variety and complexity. One of the parts of the new update seeks to make spells clearer and streamline access. The first new feature is Spell Card Inspection, letting you click on spell cards outside of combat to see the description found on the card, with the ability to hover over the icons and the words, to even get definitions when you need them. This should make it clearer what each spell card does.
This is just the beginning, as the team has plans to expand descriptions of a number of spells and standardize icons across a series of future updates.
The update also adds a number of other features, like the Pixie Post mail system, and the new quest friend finder system.
