With Diablo IV launching in June, development on Diablo III is winding down, with seasons scheduled to begin repeating as Blizzard focuses on the new installment.

In a new interview shared by WoWHead, Rod Fergusson reveals that there is a new theme coming for Season 29. It won’t be as elaborate or packed as Season 28,  Rites of Sanctuary, but there will be new content on the way. For Season 30 onwards, though, content will be repeating.

It won’t be a linear process, so things won’t just be a straightforward retread. Expect a “a mix and match of previous cosmetics and features”.  In fact, some of this recycling has already begun with Season 28. That season began back in February and features a few returning items, like Conqueror set pieces. This means more chances to get your hands on items and to try out things you may have missed the first time around. If you’re not ready to move onto Diablo IV or just don’t have the system for it yet, this remixed content seasonal system is planned for the foreseeable future.

This frees up the team to move to Diablo IV, which is not only launching with a big map and plenty of content, the team just released a brand new video previewing the various activities and ways to customize your own play time in Sanctuary, both through progression and into the endgame content. We can expect content and likely brand new seasons over in Diablo IV, so this wrap on new stuff for the third installment makes sense, and still doesn’t close off the ability to continue to enjoy the game.

“[Diablo IV] has the dark tone of the original Diablo, plus the persistent progression of Diablo II, plus the visceral combat of Diablo III, plus the new innovations of freedom of choice and the shared open world. That has been the challenge, especially with the 11-year gap between Diablo III and Diablo IV,” Fergusson says.
