Wintersday Returns to Guild Wars 2 With Some New Changes, and ArenaNet Makes a Change for Easier Upgrades

It's time to celebrate Wintersday  in Guild Wars 2, with the returning holiday event to close out the year. It runs from today through January 4, 2022.

When it comes to celebrating the holiday you can complete your daily achievements to earn holiday weapons, take on the Secret Lair of the Snowmen strike mission, Throw some snow at other players in Snowball Mayhem, and even deliver some toys to Tyrian orphans. Making it easier this year, the orphans who haven't gotten gifts will have an overhead marker. You'll find Wintersday gifts appearing in various places around Tyria. This year’s route for the charitable donations and the dolyak has been changed, and will move faster to make up for the increased distance.

Toypocalypse has had some significant changes for this year, With the number of waves per round reduced from 5 to 3 and enemy toys escalate through round 10. The destructible decorations start reappearing after 10 minutes instead of 15.  Other changes include adjustments to the Toy Cap Rifle & Toy Repair Pistol, which also has a new name, Toy Control Pistol. There's a movement speed skill on construction bundles and players can't leave the preparation area before the event actually begins, so be sure you're ready.

But the holiday is not all that arrives in this update. The team reflected on a decision in January to adjust high-value cosmetic infusion sources to attempt to increase their availability, but they determined it didn't go far enough. Their data showed that many times, Charged Quartz Oricalchum Amulets  with cosmetic upgrades were destroyed or salvaged with no guaranteed upgrade extraction, so now the upgrades will be dropping directly. This means the Charged Quartz Oricalchum Amulet of the Exalted is replaced with the upgrade item, Vial of Liquid Aurillium. Other Charged Quartz items have also been replaced by their upgrade items as drops.

For more, including what’s new for Wintersday and the upgrade item changes to drops and drop rates, check the full notes here at Guild Wars 2.
