We're in CG Magazine!

Posted Sep 04, 2004 by Craig McGregor

We're in CG Magazine!

Last month we were contacted by Computer Games Magazine to share some of our thoughts and opinions on the status of the MMO market in light of the recent cancellation of major titles.  We were a little disappointed that the article took a bit of  a "doomsday" tone - but it was fun to get mentioned nonetheless!

Here is a summary of our mention in the article:

...Barely a month has passed in 2004 without a high profile one being cancelled in development.

So, what's going on? According to the gurus at MMORPG.com, all this gloomy news isn't as bad as it might seem. While their have been problems, there are more MMOs in the works now then ever before. The website is is currently tracking over 120 in various stages of development.

"This has been one of the more exciting years for MMO development," says MMORPG.com site administrator Craig McGregor. "If anything, the world is pressing its boundaries and expanding its appeal. It might just not be expanding quickly enough to keep all the available titles in clover."

...

But aside from that, all bets are off.  McGregor and his coworkers at MMORPG.com believe that we will undoubtedly see additional failures and cancellations in the coming months.  "This is the way of things in gaming," he says.  "We, as gamers, need to realize the cyclical nature of these developments as they happen and not take it as the end of an era."

I would like to point out that all of the quotes that you see above were NOT my words - but rather that of Reed Hubbard (Koltrane) who prepared a nice response to their query last month (I mean really, I would not even know how to use a word like "clover" unless I was talking about something growing in my yard!)...excellent work Koltrane!

To read this special edition on MMO's you should pick up a copy at your local magazine rack!
