Airship Syndicate’s latest Wayfinder patch surprise dropped a big feature – cross-play between PC and PlayStation 5. To be fair, this is preview mode before the scheduled formal launch, but the option to help the team sort out any issues and have a way to play with friends, regardless of what platform they’re on is a welcome change.
Now that the game returned to PlayStation 5 last month, if you want to play with others, you can enter the lobby and invite friends, regardless of which of the supported platforms they are on. When you are in a public game you can get an invite code through the Find Party menu, which works with the new lobby code invite system to make the whole thing work. Share that code with those you want to play with, and have at it in the ARPG.
The update also fixes a number of issues, including some crash issues, an error that was causing parties to no longer be available, and even a bug that was causing the find party button to be missing from the menu after you got disconnected.
The official launch for the cross-play feature is October 21st, when Wayfinder officially exits out of Early Access. So if you have any issues joining others, Airship Syndicate would appreciate some bug reports.
Since the game entered Early Access, it has been a winding road for the Wayfinder team. Airship Syndicate saw multiple rounds of layoffs, the loss of their publisher, and the decision to self-publish eventually came with a total revamp of the game itself. While the now buy once, no cash shop or passes needed game can be played offline, the surprise preview of cross-play proves that the community does still really want the option to play together too.
