If you’ve been playing Wayfinder recently, then you’re aware that Airship Syndicate has faced critical server issues and, in many cases, substantial player dissatisfaction. However, this Early Access MMORPG-Lite has been keenly addressing these concerns as they work to remedy the problems they face. In the latest series of Discord messages, the team provides an update on several issues, and pushes a compensation package live for current players.
As we’ve reported recently, Wayfinder's Early Access launch was tumultuous despite several successful Beta tests. Once the game hit Ealy Access on August 17th, players were frequently faced with long login queues, server outages, and various in-game bugs. The development team at Airship Syndicate acknowledged these hiccups, as they’ve continued to work on making things right. The team now believes they’ve turned a corner, with the ability for 3 times as many concurrent players, and a shift in the recent review scores on Steam from “Mostly Negative” to “Mixed”.
In response to the rocky start, Airship Syndicate rolled out a generous compensation package for all players who attempted to login between the 17th of August to the 25th of August. This package will include a Wayfinder Token, 1100 Runesilver, and 5 Reward Tower Keys, irrespective of whether they could actually enter the game or not. The compensation should also entice players that may have written off the game to swing back in, and possibly give the game another shot, while allowing them to unlock a new character of their choice.
Despite the team rolling out their compensation package, Wayfinder isn't without several ongoing issues. It’s important to note that, while the server issues are doing better, players are still disconnecting regularly, and some difficulties finding matches still exist. Players have also raised concerns about the game's store, prompting Airship Syndicate to address missing Runesilver purchases. While a significant "Insufficient Funds" bug has been resolved, players may still find that they still can’t purchase Runesilver at all. There is currently no ETA on when these issues may be resolved, but the team intends to address it soon. Another significant area under the lens is customer support response times. Due to the overwhelming number of tickets post-launch, response times have suffered. Better support is on the docket to address in the near future.
These are just some of the many issues the team has yet to completely resolve, as their Discord posts point out several additional issues, such as losing progression during Cross-Saving with the PlayStation Network, the game crashing when players take on the Talon of Pyre world boss fight, problems selling accessories, and weapons incorrectly displaying as rifles, which are all being addressed.
Luckily, there were more than just a list of problems that need fixes in their post. The first content update is on the way with new weapons, hunts, and quests. They have also urged players to check out their roadmap, which they’ve recently updated, to see what else is headed down the pipe. It’s clear that Wayfinder still has a long road ahead with such a shaky start. We can only hope the team will be able to get these issues under control, and fulfill it’s potential for their fans.
