Wayfinder recently announced a significant update on their Discord server, which is set to roll out next week. This update, as shared on 13th September 2023, primarily targets the inventory system but will also include XP buffs.
Inventory Fixes and Delays
Wayfinder's development team acknowledged the existing issues with the game's inventory system and assured players that a patch is in progress. Since it’s Early Access release, Airship Syndicate has been scrambling to fix a multitude of issues, including server stability. While the team initially aimed to release the inventory update last week, they decided to postpone it to ensure thorough QA testing. This decision stems from the magnitude of the changes, which directly impact players' inventories.
In a silver lining to the delay, the team has managed to incorporate additional fixes and adjustments based on player feedback, and they have even provided a short video showcasing how Echo Dust will work. The idea was to build a swift system to manage your inventory without multiple screens or crashes.
XP Buffs and Enhancements
Some of the standout features of this update are the XP buffs. Mini-bosses, will now offer 1.5 times the current XP. Hunts, which are popular boss battles, will reward players with three times the XP upon completion, ensuring that players progress more quickly when taking on these challenges. Hopefully Wayfinders that have left the game due to the initial server issues, and choose to return, will find the leveling experience more consistent with the fine-tuned XP gains.
Additionally, the update will address a specific glitch where the 'Tooth and Claw' and 'Epitaph' were mistakenly displayed as rifles.
Future Plans and Player Experience
Airship Syndicate emphasized their commitment to enhancing the player experience during the game's Early Access phase. They clarified that their primary goal isn't to acquire new players during this period but to refine and optimize the game systems, all at the behest of their community’s feedback. The team's next significant endeavor is the launch of Founder's Season 2, which will focus on improving the player experience and attracting new players. The ultimate goal is to transition Wayfinder to a Free-to-Play (F2P) model in 2024.
Wayfinder's upcoming update promises some much-needed enhancements that are essentially the first step to elevating the current gaming experience. The team was clear that this wasn’t their planned content update, which is still forthcoming. With Free-to-Play on the docket for 2024, players looking to hold off until the game has fully transitioned won’t have much longer to wait, rather than spend funds to jump in while the game is still finding its groove.
