Ankama Games’ latest release, tactical RPG Waven, is now in early access. Available on PC and Mac, early access for the free to play game is live, with special bonuses for those who join early, and optional premium passes.
Waven is set in the same universe as Ankama’s previous games, Dofus, and Wakfu, but in a future time where the world is recovering from catastrophe. The world is flooded and you will take to the sea to search for answers to what's going on, learn from history, and use the magic and other resources that still exist in the world today.
As we noted in our preview, Waven is charting its own course and there is no need to be familiar with the previous games in order to enjoy it. Of course, if you are familiar with the previous games, the lore will probably hit differently for you. In Waven, you'll get to create a character, choose your build, and sail around the islands to to scale up, level up, and learn different strategies to be the most effective you can be while also steeped in the RPG lore.
Early Access comes with a new trailer to show you exactly what to expect from this phase. Right now, there is a short prologue, lots of quests, and the ability to travel around to different destinations. There are 25 heroes in the Early Access build, 90 companions, and 300 spells. Also available in Early Access will be the PVP arena, co-op play, and more to discover.
Some content will not be available in early access, and is being saved for the final launch later this year. So, while there is a lot to discover in the Early Access version, which you can join through the Ankama Games launcher or on Steam, the main story is still under wraps, and so is the island defense mechanic.
When the game eventually reaches its official final release, it will also be available totally cross-platform on iOS and Android in addition to PC and Mac.
Early Access comes with a few optional premium features, but you can join for free. There is a season pass in free and two paid versions, and Founder’s Packs that will give you exclusive cosmetics when the game launches. There is a free FX cosmetic called the halo world visual as a welcome gift that will be available for all who join Early Access.
