Warner Bros. Interactive Responds to Bethesda's Westworld Legal Challenge

Nearly to the day that the Westworld mobile game emerged on the App Store and on Google Play, a lawsuit was filed by Bethesda that alleged that the code used as its framework is the same as is found in Fallout Shelter. The suit alleges that developer Behaviour Interactive, the outsourced developers that worked on both games, used the same code sequences for Westworld. The suit alleges that the same bugs found in FOS are also present in Westworld. Warner Bros. has now responded.

Warner Bros Interactive told GamesIndustry.biz:

As one of the world's leading creators of intellectual property, including the ground-breaking television series Westworld, Warner Bros. has a deep respect for intellectual property rights. As such, the assertions by Bethesda Softworks that Warner's Westworld mobile game improperly used source code from Bethesda's Fallout Shelter are as surprising as they are unsubstantiated.

Warner Bros. has been assured by the game developer, Behaviour Interactive, that Bethesda's allegations are untrue and that none of Bethesda's code was used in the Westworld game. Moreover, contrary to Bethesda's baseless accusation, Warner Bros. at no time 'induced' Behaviour to use the Fallout Shelter code in Westworld.

The lawsuit seeks a stop to all publication of the mobile Westworld game and a portion of the currently earned profits.

You can read the legal documents here by downloading the PDF of the case that has been filed in the US District Court in Maryland. Check out all of the submitted exhibits here.
