Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive’s sequel to 2011’s hack and slash Space Marine, is off to an incredible start. Releasing this week after four days of advanced access for the Gold and Ultra Editions of the game, Space Marine 2 has already surpassed the concurrent user record on Steam for games set in the Warhammer 40K universe.
At one point, 225,690 Space Marines were collectively crushing the Tyranid scum underfoot in defense of the Empire. Creative Assembly’s Total War: Warhammer 3 previously held the crown at 166,754 peak concurrent users. Space Marine 2 is also enjoying a roughly 78% positive rating on the platform, despite some of its shortcomings when it comes to campaign length and smaller quality of life details such as field of view and ultrawide monitor support. The latter of which will arrive this month as outlined in the previously released roadmap.
The team also celebrated two million total players this week and announced plans to release a small patch that will address a number of crashes, CPU overheating issues, and myriad server and render bug improvements. Later, an update will address ultrawide support, add private PvE lobbies, and add a sparring arena for players.
