Warhammer 40,000 Darktide is getting a new update tomorrow, Path of Redemption, which will introduce a new reward system, update and overhaul penances, and even add a new enemy and a new feature.
Fatshark says this is the beginning, since there will be more content this month to support the update as well. The reinvented penance system will come in multiple steps. Not only will there be new penances available, more than 200 of them in several categories, you'll be able to use penance points towards a battle pass style progression track with more than 40 reward tiers.
They’ve also revealed details on the brand new condition, Pox Gas, the new Dreg Tox Bomber enemy, and the Personality Scourge feature. They revealed the name of the new condition earlier but now we know what Pox Gas will mean for gameplay. This will be added to some of the areas as a condition and a new Dynamic challenge. There will be some cues that the gas is coming, including sound cues, and making it appear with lower gas to warn you, but it is there to challenge you as a new environmental hazard that puts you under duress inside areas where the gas is coming. If you detect those clues that it's on the way, you'll have to decide if you're fighting through or waiting it out.
That Dreg Tox Bomber is also going to complement the toxic gas theme. It’s similar to the Scab Bomber, so if you know how to dodge the grenades in that matchup, this time this bomber will throw Blight grenades that explode into toxic gas. The gas will spew over a large area, causing damage, loss of Toughness, and eventual Corruption. Oh, and it buffs enemies as it hangs around for a while.
On a more pleasant note, Personality Scourge is a new feature following community feedback. This is essentially extended character customization, including voice, height, and additional aspects of your character except for your class. In exchange for Ordo Dockets, you can adjust your body type, name, background, and more.
Path of Redemption will be out tomorrow, which beats the original “late April” announcement.
