Warframe’s Jade Shadows update arrives in June, with a new single-player cinematic quest that brings back the Stalker, new mission type, and the 57th Warframe, Jade. The update got a big reveal on the latest Digital Extremes dev stream today, along with peeks at Warframe: 1999, more on Protea Prime, and even a preview of TennoCon.
The Stalker is back in Jade Shadows–in a big way–as you take control of the legacy character in the new cinematic quest. Play through the quest to learn more about the Stalker’s tragic backstory and a tale of “love, loss, and sacrifice” that will also lead you to Jade, the 57th Warframe.
The team’s inspiration for Jade, also known as “the song of devastation” was “angelic choir soloists”. Her weapons are also based on some themes typically found in classic choral music –Love, Hope, and Wonder. We’ll find out more about her powers and a connection to the legacy of the Tenno in Jade Shadows, with more reveals from Digital Extremes to come before launch.
With the Jade Shadows update also comes a new game mode, Ascension, a brand new Clan Operation, Belly of the Beast, and even Stalker-themed cosmetics. Also expect a deluxe skin for Yareli.
All of this was revealed on Devstream 179, where the team also showed some new concept art of both Arthur and Aoi, and the Atomicycle. They also talked how they applied Warframe style to a 1990’s era motorcycle.
While 1999 is a major undertaking, the Jade Shadows update also represents something special. In a press release, Megan Everett, Warframe’s Community Director, said “We’ve been putting the pedal to the metal on this road trip to 1999, and Jade Shadows is a slight narrative detour we are taking along the way to tell a story that is very important to us about the Stalker…We hope this story the team is crafting may help answer some long-burning questions about his motives and relationships when it launches this June”.
Protea Prime is coming May 1st and she got a new teaser today as well.
More will be revealed at TennoCon. The team says that on day one, there will be merch access and a 90s-themed Tenno VIP event on July 19th in London, Ontario, where TennoCon badge holders can meet one another and meet some developers for food and drinks.
