If you own an Android phone and you’ve been waiting for Warframe to drop so you can take your Tenno on the go-go, it seems like this year might be a no-go. Despite Waframe not launching on Android yet, I have it on good authority from Creative Director Rebecca Ford herself that Digital Extremes doesn’t hate Android users.
During an interview with Rebecca Ford at Tennocon, she stated that they had originally planned an announcement and release date for Android, but they decided to postpone it.
“We took a very radical, like, hygiene pass on what we need to do first on the iOS platform before we even made a whisper of a promise (on an Android launch),” she said. “So, the answer is not until we're happy with our current iOS situation, which means usability, performance, in no particular order.”
While the news is probably not what many of us Android gamers want to hear, it isn’t the end of the world, as there is some hope on the horizon that testing may open up later this year.
“We could still test this year in theory,” Rebb said. “Extremely, like, wider tests. So, for instance when we did the iOS tests, we did like thousands of thousands of regional tests. So, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that this year on a particular cohort of devices.”
It seems like, until the issues of performance and usability are fixed on iOS, Android is going to have to wait patiently, but at least it’s nice to know that we still might have some testing to look forward to this year. If you want to sign up to be selected for testing Warframe on Android, you’ll need to head over to Warframes official site and log into your account. Make sure you opt-in for the closed beta and keep an eye on your emails to for an invite.
