Digital Extremes is gearing up for Warframe's upcoming expansion, Warframe: 1999, and the company is giving players a small tease of what to expect as a new demo has launched today.

First announced back at TennoCon 2023Warframe: 1999 takes players back to that eponymous time period, with Tennos taking the role of Arthur as he explores Höllvanian, slicing through Scaldra, a new enemy faction, all while riding in style on his Atomicyle. Playing the demo will unlock a new cosmetic Longsword skin, the Protokol Longsword.

The demo releases today on all platforms, and is free to anyone who wants to check out the 1999 vibe as we head towards Warframe: 1999's launch this Winter. While Digital Extremes hasn't announced an official release date just yet, the demo likely marks the homestretch for the team as Tennos eagerly complete their main quest scenarios to get ready for the upcoming expansion.

Warframe: 1999 will introduce a new romance system that lets players flirt with five different love interests as they all hurtle towards midnight on New Year's Eve. Revealed at this past TennoCon, the system will allow players to flirt via an instant messaging system, like many of us did when we were kids, to deep-dive and better understand each character, culminating in a New Year's Kiss.

Warframe: 1999 picks up the story after last year's Whispers in the Walls update, following Arthur, voiced by Final Fantasy XVI's Ben Starr, and will ask the question: what exactly has Albretch Entrati been doing this whole time?
