If so, you’re in luck, as love is in the air in Warframe 1999 and it’s the first time that Digital Extremes has added the courting of, not just one, but five potential love interests. In pure 1999 fashion, you’ll do this by logging in online and sending emails from your archaic PC, complete with an antiquated CRT monitor.
At Tennocon 2024, players were introduced to the romance system that will debut with Warframe 1999. Arthur will get to know his fellow protoframe Hex Syndicate members, Amir, Aoi, Quincy, Leticia, and Eleanor, as he builds a relationship that will culminate in a New Year’s kiss.
“What we've done is basically, we're letting you build rapport through instant messaging,” said Rebecca Ford, the Creative Director behind Warframe during our interview at Tennocon. “So (that includes) conversations, deep dives, understanding these characters more,” she continued. “If you get yourself into a position where you are confident enough that you have a relationship with this person and they reciprocate, and you've done it all because this is 1999 and it's that Y2K moment - there will be an opportunity for you to have a New Year's kiss with your romantic partner.”
With romance in the cards, Rebecca confirmed that the relationship you choose to form will be a lasting partnership, and meaningful, in your journey through 1999. However, just because the relationship is meaningful, 1999 is also replayable, and that means that you can see a different outcome by fostering a different relationship later.
“You could spend your time playing and engaging with the content and have a different partner,” Rebecca confirmed. “You can have the same person. You can change it up, more to come on that,” she teased. “But our intention with this is that you're not locked in forever and if you make a mistake, it's okay. It's going to be a bit more forgiving, but we want to keep it in the fiction of the world.”
The premise of romance in Warframe 1999 is quite a big leap into a unique area that has yet to be delved into by Digital Extremes. As we anticipate 1999 this winter, now is the best time to start crushing on your favorite Syndicate member as you wait for your impending courtship.
