The multiplatform dominance of Warframe continues to expand. Digital Extremes announced today that Warframe, the MMO-ish multiplayer action game, will come to iOS devices on February 20th. Players will also have access to Cross-Save and Cross-Platform Play features immediately, meaning they can drag their old accounts onto their iPhones and join friends no matter where they are.
Players who log into the iOS client during its launch week also earn special login rewards, this time a 3-Day Affinity Booster, which boosts earned experience points, and a Bombyx Syandana, a special cosmetic cape.
Warframe is one of the major ambassadors of being able to play with anyone, anywhere. It was a difficult struggle to make this possible for certain non-AAA games after Sony showed resistance to the option, even with fan demand and proven success from AAA games like Call of Duty. The mass popularity of games like Fortnite across mobile, PC, and console versions has opened the doors for similar games where possible.
Warframe was one of the bigger earlier non-AAA games to pursue this opportunity, and it’s pretty much accomplished that. Its “mission” format is also conducive to on-the-go gaming, allowing players to quit missions without heavy consequences.
Warframe is basically now available on almost every major platform: Windows (Steam and standalone clients), Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and now iOS. Pre-registration is open for Android as its inevitable release approaches, though Mac OS users are still out of luck.
