The latest major expansion to Warframe, simply titled 1999, is coming soon—as in, tomorrow.
As announced at The Game Awards, Warframe: 1999 arrives December 13, which is a mere hours away.
This new expansion centers on an alternate version of 1999, bringing with it all the looks and vibes of the era as players fight against two new enemies, the Scaldra and the onslaught of the Techrot infestation, in the new Höllvania City. 1999 brings Warframe’s 59th Warframe, with heavy support and distance abilities, as well as two new weapons, the Reconifex assault rifle and secondary pistol, Vesper 77.
Alongside the single-player story mode, players can join four new mission types, including Faceoff, Warframe’s first PvPvE mode where players race to complete objectives, plus three more PvE missions. Plus, Warframe: 1999 features a highly-anticipated new relationship system, where players can build up repertoire with any of six characters.
Along with this expansion release, the Warframe: 1999 soundtrack will be up on streaming services and for physical purchase on December 13 featuring in-game and expanded-universe tunes from the pre-release material.
Ahead of the release, Digital Extremes dropped a slew of tie-in material, including a “prequel” animation, a comic, tons of lore via the official website and media, and even a Backstreet Boys-style musical single. Plus, players got to give a fully playable demo a drive—though it may not be necessary anymore, with the full release hours away.
As with any Warframe update, 1999 will be a free major content update for all players when it releases on December 13 (that’s to say, again, tomorrow). We’ll update here when we know more precise details on timing from official sources.
