War Thunder Mobile has officially launched on iOS and Android after several rounds of playtesting.
Like the original War Thunder for PC and console, the mobile game is a free to play, historically inspired online military action game. War Thunder is known for its historically accurate vehicles from various nations, and the mobile version continues this. Those who decide to download and play the mobile version before August 29th will get a free launch gift – the USS Nicholas American destroyer and a platoon of French vehicles in special camos.
War Thunder Mobile has been in alpha and beta testing over the past several months, and there have been a series of updates, optimizations, and changes based on feedback and data along the way. Some of the changes that the team highlights include a HUD editor, which should make the mobile experience more comfortable, an updated teammate search interface to help you to prepare to battle quickly, and additional customization options for vehicles. There are new tanks, aircraft, and ships that have been added in the past 6 months, in addition to new maps.
The PC and mobile versions of War Thunder each have their own separate teams, but Gaijin Entertainment emphasizes that both communicate with each other. Content will, and does, differ, which isn’t a surprise given the over 10 year period the PC game has been running, but their intent is to create a similarly compelling military action game and to “expand the War Thunder universe together”, according to the launch announcement.
In practical terms, a bunch of the content that's already in War Thunder for PC and console will be coming to mobile since there's so much to choose from. However, some of the content that is on the way will debut on the mobile version and later be added to PC and console. It's a way to keep the mobile version feeling like a continuously fresh option since sometimes it will get the new shiny stuff first.
