The developers at Ramen VR have announced that three existing Shards in Zenith will no longer be online, as the team is taking down any that are unused or not as populated as the others.
Last month, we learned that Ramen VR would no longer be updating or focusing on their VR MMORPG Zenith, and today we learn that with the player base dwindling a few Shards will be retired. The initial decline in players was a bit shocking, as the VR MMO was not only highly acclaimed but became the biggest title in the genre to date. With low player retention rates, it has been decided that retiring a few Shards won’t do any harm. The devs state,
“As we look towards a more sustainable vision for Zenith, we’ve reviewed the number of shards currently online. We found a handful of shards go unused in comparison to others, and have decided to retire these shards during the release of Season 4 in August 2024 (release window TBA). Reminder: Accounts and characters aren’t locked to any shard or region, so no progress or data will be lost.”
The Shards that are being taken offline include Dragonfruit in EU, Protector in US-West and Armageddon in US-East. This is just the current list as of July 26th, but the devs do say that the list could change in the future if more consolidation is needed.
Season 4 will be the last major content update to come to Zenith before the developers focus on other projects, but will bring major bug fixes and new Infinite Realms layouts.
