Iron Gate, the team behind viking-themed survival game Valheim, have shed some additional details on how food will work in their upcoming Hearth & Home update.

At the end of last month, the team first provided details on what we can expect in Hearth & Home. For example, coin stacks and coin piles will be added which will allow you to show off your wealth (even if you deny your wealth). Additionally, a treasure chest is being added to store your supplies and surplus of coin.

Iron Gate (the team) is also adding iron gates (the structure) to Valheim, allowing you to lock up your valuables safely. They also revealed three new people are joining their team including an animator, QA manager, and programmer. If you missed that update, check it out here.

More recently, Iron Gate teased their upcoming food rework as part of Hearth & Home. As the system works right now, eating food will buff your health and energy equally. In the upcoming update, your food bar as it stands now is going away.

Instead, food has been split into three categories: health, stamina, and an even split of the two. Timers will also be present on the food you’ve consumed, letting you know how long the food’s effect will last. Additionally, it’ll let you understand exactly how much stamina and health you have remaining based on the food you eat. You can check out the teaser below:

Right now, we don’t have a release date for Hearth & Home. Our Managing Editor lamented on the loss of his Valheim home as it was destroyed by trolls. You can read his lament to Gandalf here.
