Valheim Updates on Ashlands Development, and Recent Xbox Launch

Valheim has a new devblog with a new peek at development of the Ashlands, more on the recent Xbox release, and some more planned updates.

This month, Valheim made it onto Xbox Game Pass, following its arrival for Microsoft PC Game Pass last year.  Iron Gate is reassuring all that everyone will still be able to play together.

“Like we have promised ever since the announcement, there is full crossplay support, so you can play with your friends regardless of what platform you’re on.”  This means that the new Xbox section of the community can play with the PC community if they want to, and vice versa. With any new platform opening up support, there have been some bugs that the team is working to address. Yet with this new option, and Game Pass access, getting people to try and join you should be easier.

The Ashlands development is also one of the updates in this newest devblog. The team did promise to provide more frequent updates, and even more substantial ones, during the development of the newest biome.

The update features a screenshot of the most recent terrain build. Clearly a very hot–and very challenging–environment. We see a man carrying a long sword on his back, traversing  some rocky terrain set between areas of what look like magma.

The team is still working on the graphics, but they are also hard at work on the gameplay loop of the whole biome, hinting that there will naturally be dungeons, but they are also testing something they are calling “Fortress time”.

Also happening is work on Hildir’s Quest, with Hildir’s camp one of the new locations to feature in that update. Yet, it’s not the only one, as the team hints. “Particularly helpful vikings – or very lucky explorers – will be able to find a few other new and mysterious places scattered across the world.” Hildir’s Quest will also get a few quality of life updates, like easier ways to move items to and from chests and a manual snapping toggle for building.
