The Valheim team is closing out 2021 with the last dev blog of the year. With holiday time off coming, the team is looking towards development continuing in 2022, with a little peek at what’s coming to the Mountains and what’s ahead with the plans for the Mistlands update. And a little holiday gift for all.

Work has been continuing on the caves in the Mountains, with that content steadily coming along. There aren’t that many updates but they did offer some sneak peaks via screenshots. The team is also working on and looking towards what’s coming for the Mistlands  update. Since the new biome requires so much work, everything from resources, enemies, and pulling out all the stops on a great brand new boss, everyone can dedicate themselves to that work once the Mountains have their final polish this round.

Yet keeping in the spirit of a game  where final polish means for now, there are always possible changes coming. The team released a very small patch this week and it included a surprise brand new creature that they didn’t tell anyone. This will appear in existing worlds, so you won’t have to start anything new to encounter it. The surprise encounter was also marked by clips of community members reacting on social media. Iron Gate posted a no spoilers video so if you’re curious what the reactions look like before you jump in, you can take a look at that here

Overall, it seems that work continues ahead on the polish stages and the Mistlands overhaul, setting up Valheim for the announcements to come in the new year. Yet they had one more surprise for everyone. This one wasn’t as shocking or scary, however. To close out the year, they are also giving everyone a holiday armor stand.
