V Rising is offering a peek at next month’s long-promised Gloomrot expansion update, which will be out May 17th. There’s a new Secrets of Gloomrot cinematic trailer to whet your appetite for the major overhauls, new spells, dozens of new enemies, bosses, and much more.
Stunlock Studios’ has also opened up a minisite as a Secrets of Gloomrot info hub until the release. The vampire survival MMO has sold over three million copies in Early Access, with many of those copies moving fast in the weeks and early months after the Early Access period began. The success of that launch made it possible for the team to plan big for their first content update.
With a round of positive reviews to match, they have decided to go big, because adding all of this extra content meant that they would have to overhaul some of their most basic foundations that the game was originally built on, it has taken some time. Secrets of Gloomrot will, in fact, be out on the one-year anniversary of Early Access.
It has taken a year for Stunlock to put together this first big content update, but they are adding a lot. Not only can you build multi-level castles, there are some more RPG elements, a huge new zone that has two areas, new biomes (including a weather system with hazards), new creatures, and more. Those two new areas are what the team is calling “twisted in the pursuit of cruel science”. You'll have to hunt and learn how to harness the power of lightning to bring on a new technological age.
How you’ll do that will, in part, be with the new spell school, Storm.
It won't be simple. To help, there will be new weapon types, including Legendary weapons, as well as the Jewel system. This is a way to enhance and modify your spells to give you more of a customized build.
There are new points of interest coming to the world of Vardoran. Trade hubs will be a new feature, though you’ll have to be sure vampires are welcome at some of them.
Looking for a challenge? How about 30 new enemy types, including new factions, elementals, spiders, undead, mutants, experiments, and technologists too. There will also be 13 new bosses that you can hunt down to get rewards and more knowledge, and much more.
There will also be some improvements to music, animations, and quality of life stuff like being able to carry more items. A paid cosmetic DLC is also on the way, the Sinister Evolution Pack.
